What is Osteopathy
Osteopathy originated as a movement of American family doctors who treated the patient as a whole person - body, mind and spirit that work as one intelligent unit, capable of self - regulating and self - healing. Osteopathic treatment is tailored to the patient's specific issues, but in general terms, aims to (i) remove impediments to the natural capacity for recovery, and (ii) to educate the body's intelligence to improve movement, coordination, use of the right muscles for postural stability, muscle strength where needed, and more. Regular osteopathic care supports your longevity, energy levels, strength and endurance.
What kind of impediments does osteopathy address?
Often these are structural, which means they relate to physical structures in the body: joints, muscles, connective tissues such as fascia, tendons and ligaments, spinal discs, spinal cord or nerve roots. Alternatively, a functional issue often relates to the compex work of your nervous system, or movements involving your joints and muscles. Osteopathy believes that healthy structure and good function are inter-related and support each other, so osteopathic treatment addresses both. Osteopathy utilises both manual therapy and exercise therapy to help you educate your musculoskeletal and nervous systems to function well.
