What is Naturopathy?
Naturopathy is a holistic approach to healthcare that emphasizes the body's inherent ability to heal itself. Rooted in the principles of natural healing, naturopathy seeks to treat the root cause and the whole person—mind, body, and spirit—rather than just addressing specific symptoms or conditions.
Naturopaths use a broad range of natural treatments, with the core modalities being herbal, nutritional and lifestyle medicine. Modern Naturopaths use knowledge drawn from traditional natural healing methods, as well as contemporary research and their scientific training, which gives them an understanding of biomedical information and clinical research.
Naturopathy can be used to manage a wide variety of health conditions, including:
· Digestive disorders
· Hormonal dysregulation
· Fertility troubles
· Immune and respiratory complaints
· Mental health
· Skin conditions
· Autoimmune disorders
· Thyroid irregularities
· Fatigue
· Sleep issues
· The list goes on!!!
What to expect from an appointment with our Naturopath ?
Your initial appointment will run for approximately one hour and will explore in detail your main complaint. There will be investigations into other body systems and how they may be contributing to your current symptom picture.
If you have had any recent blood testing completed, that can be analysed as part of your overall health picture. Did you know naturopaths have different references ranged based on clinical experience?
Discussions around diet and lifestyle alterations may occur and you can expect a treatment plan that may encompass herbs, vitamins, and lifestyle advice.
There will likely be further blood, urine, or stool testing needed in more complex cases to really get to the bottom of your symptoms.
Some things to expect in your script might be:
Herbal Medicine – liquid herbs, teas or capsules.
Nutritional therapy – vitamins, amino acids, and minerals
Nutrition – dietary guidance to improve symptoms and outcomes
Lifestyle recommendations – advice around stress management, seep hygiene and exercise etc
Additional recommendations such as - massage, exercise, osteopathy, therapy to improve stress and reduce pain
Depending on how complex and/or chronic your condition is, you may work with a Naturopath for 2-12 months.
Naturopathy offers a personalized approach to health care, considering each individual's unique physical, emotional, and lifestyle factors.
By focusing on natural therapies and preventive care, it aims to enhance overall well-being and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.
